Simple, sometimes things break and only an older version of the free audio editing software can work on legacy computers. Which Audacity Older Version Do You Need To Download?

If Audacity doesn’t work on your computer, first try to install the latest version, if the latest version doesn’t work then try the version before last, so on and so forth until you find a version that works for you.

What do the numbers mean?

The numbers after the Audacity file name is the version. There are usually 3 numbers, like this: Audacity 2.0.0. The first number means this is a major version. So it’s a complete upgrade between version 1 to 2, to 3. The second number is big changes, and the last number indicates smaller changes. So for little bugs, usually the last number changes, while when the program is completely different, the first number change.
